Achievement & Enrichment

Achievement Culture and Enrichment

Challenge is an important part of what Hartismere VI College is all about. Students have to learn to cope with change, to discover themselves and to learn how to get the best out of themselves. It is through rising to these challenges that their characters and personalities are shaped and defined. When you visit you are likely to be struck by the maturity of the college students and by the fact that they are already moving forward in life as happy, well rounded and self-confident young adults.

This is achieved by enabling students to access further courses or programmes of interest. The programme is designed to go beyond the classroom and provide opportunities to all students to try something new, investigate innovative and stretching challenges in a secure environment

Getting Involved

It is clearly important to achieve the right balance between work and relaxation and the college provides a wide range of other activities so that everybody can find something. The Sixth Form Council sports representatives coordinate matches. In December 2010 we hosted a visiting football squad from Australia.

Students get out and about as often as possible, with visits to conferences and exhibitions; theatres; museums and galleries; sports tournaments; outdoor education weekends; and subject-related European excursions. There have also been visits to “Question Time”. Paris and Iceland are in the Sixth Form diary as well as trips to Arran for the Biology and Geography departments. There are also trips to London on numerous occasions for subject related trips as well as the optional Christmas Sixth Form outing.

Serving your community and understanding your place in it is an important aspect of your future life. Here in college you will undertake some aspect of volunteer work.

Charity work is undertaken all year but especially in the run up to Easter where the students hold a rag week with monies going to local charities. Charitable events have included an international day where students dress to impress and Breast Cancer Awareness Day held in October. This is held to support Cancer Research UK and all the students enjoy dressing in pink for the day.
