Internet Based
Resources for The Odyssey
http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/odyssey
Good for summarising the text and
explaining the recurring motifs and themes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odyssey
Although Wikipedia needs to be
treated with caution it is often a stimulating introduction to a topic and does
contain links (at the end of the wiki article) to other websites and resources
http://www.enotes.com/odyssey
Contains very brief summaries but
also has student forums where questions and answers are traded

One of the most interesting
resources on the Odyssey, lavishly illustrated and with useful videos too. I
recommend it.
http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/trojanwarinlit/a/OdysseyI.htm
A useful site with links which
explore topics related to the Odyssey like the identity of Homer
http://www.timelessmyths.com/classical/odyssey.html
A fairly simple website but
useful when you just want to clarify
questions like who were the Lotus Eaters? What happened in the
Underworld? Why are the cattle of the Sun God important?
http://www.cliffsnotes.com/study_guide/literature/The-Odyssey-Poem-Summary.id-99,pageNum-1.html
An interesting website because it
lets you listen to some of its contents like the summaries. Worth a look (or a
listen!)
http://www.leeds.ac.uk/classics/resources/poetics/poet-hom.htm
A more advanced site which looks
at Aristotle and his views on the Iliad and The Odyssey. It does gives a sense
of what the Ancient Greeks said and thought about their epics

You Tube contains many brief
videos from the TV series made in the 90’s on the Odyssey (easily the best
version). Many of these are worth watching but are no substitute for the text.
