The EPQ is a free-standing qualification equivalent to a GCE A(S) level. This may be an extension of a student’s academic studies or may explore an area of personal interest or activity outside the main programme of study, probably related to their plans for university or employment. Examples of past projects include producing a play, assessing measures to combat MRSA, recording a CD, writing a computer program, designing clothes, researching the meaning of space and writing an extended essay.
Candidates are required to:
- choose an area of interest
- draft a project title, aims and objectives
- plan, research and carry out the project
- deliver a presentation to a specified audience
- reflect on the process
As they carry out the project, candidates complete a Production Log that records the process of developing their product. This log, together with a written report, the product and a presentation, forms the basis of assessment at the end of the process.
