Assessment

As with all subjects you will, from time to time, find that your teachers will talk about National Curriculum (NC) Levels. All your major written assessements will be marked and awarded a NC Level. At the end of Year 9 you will also be awarded a final teacher assessed NC Level based on your performance over the whole of KS3. We will take into account all the work you have done and look at your portfolios carefully before reaching a final decision but it is not just your written work that will be assessed. We will also pay attention to the way you explain things when you speak and in presentations.

The NC Levels are important but try not to get too worked up about the numbers - they mean nothing in themselves. Concentrate on the descriptions which we have included here. If you can follow these you will soon be able to see what you need to work on, set yourself  some appropriate targets for improvement and get better at doing history. Your teacher will help you if you are not sure about what some parts mean or whether you have really mastered a particular skill.
