Key Stage 3

ICT and personal, learning and thinking skills

The aims of the curriculum are that young people should become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. The development of personal, learning and thinking skills (PLTS) is an essential part of meeting these aims. PLTS have considerable impact on young people's ability to enter work and adult life as confident and capable individuals who can make a positive contribution.

The ICT programme of study provides opportunities to plan sequences of work, learning outcomes and teaching approaches to ensure PLTS form an integral part of subject teaching and learning.

Effective participators
Young people actively engage with issues that affect them and those around them. They play a full part in the life of their school, college, workplace or wider community by taking responsible action to bring improvements for others as well as themselves.

The emphasis on communicating, exchanging and presenting information and ideas in ICT provides pupils with skills and opportunities to participate fully and to make positive contributions. ICT provides tools to support collaborative working and problem-solving locally and globally. The subject provides wide-scale access to information and ideas, which can enhance pupils’ knowledge and understanding of local, national and international issues, enabling them to make informed and positive contributions.
