OCR Nationals Level 2

What is the OCR Nationals in ICT Level 2?

At Key Stage 4 we currently offer the OCR Nationals in ICT Level 2. The Nationals are exam-free alternatives to GCSEs that have an engaging and practical approach to learning and assessment. Students tackle 'real work' style tasks designed to develop transferable skills for education and the workplace.

What is the structure of the qualification?

The qualification comprises of a number of different units, each with a set number of 'tokens' attached to them. Only unit one is compulsory, the rest are optional. The units we cover can be view here.

Below are the qualifications available, their equivalence in GCSE's and the number of tokens needed:

  • First Award (3 tokens) = 1 GCSE grades C and above
  • Award (6 tokens) = 2 GCSE grades C and above
  • First Certificate (9 tokens) = 3 GCSE grades C and above

What do the grading mean on the reports?

The grades available are pass, merit and distinction. A pass has to be obtained in order to gain a qualification. Below explains what each grade on the year 10 and 11 reports mean:

  • Distinction - the highest grade available and means the student is currently working at the equivalent to A/A* at GCSE
  • Merit - the student is currently working at the equivalent to B at GCSE
  • Pass - the student is currently working at the equivalent to C at GCSE
  • Below Pass - at the student current rate of progress, they are at risk of not passing the course.
  • Fail - the student is at great risk of not passing the course unless there is a big increase in both work and effort

Can the students work from home?

Yes they can. All of the tasks for the course are available on the projects page and can he submitted from anywhere with an internet connection. Many of the tasks do require the Microsoft Office applications or specialist software, some of which can be downloaded for free (e.g. Scratch).
