Destination Europe

Next stop: Destination Europe!
On Tuesday 20th July Hartismere High School offers its YR8 and YR7 students a unique opportunity to improve their foreign language skills.

Have you ever struggled ordering food in a foreign country? Have you ever had problems buying a ticket at a foreign train station? Hartismere High School wants to prepare the students for everyday situations abroad and give them the opportunity to actually use their foreign language skills and gain confidence.

Therefore, Destination Europe will take place on Tuesday 20th July 2010. Destination Europe is a unique opportunity for the YR8 and YR7 pupils to spend some time in almost completely authentic foreign environment. They will rely on their foreign language skills in order to fulfill certain tasks and activities.

Over the last couple of weeks all the YR9 language students have been preparing different stations, such as building a bank to change money, a border control that checks your passport or a cafe that offers German and French snacks.

The stations will be run by YR9 students. Y12 Language students and several member of staff will be present as well to support and assist. However, the main goal is that the students learn to deal with a completely foreign environment.

Together with their language teachers YR9 students have prepared a great variety of stations: a gift shop, a post office, a tourist info, a beauty parlour, a cafe, a market research station, a fortune teller, a border control, a bank, a prison, a train station and a reservations station.

In addition to our High School students there will also be a YR6 from one of the local Primary Schools coming in to take part in the event.

Destinbation Europe will take place in the School's Sports Hall. Please note that each year have their individual slot:

Year 6   Lesson 2   10.05-10.55

Year 8   Lesson 3   11.15-12.05

Year 7   Lesson 4   12.05-12.55

For any further information about Destination Europe please see one of your language teachers.
