Edexcel AS & A2 PE
Students will have the chance to take on the roles of ‘performer’, ‘leader’ or ‘official’ at AS, before focusing on one of these roles at A2. In the context of their chosen role(s), they will:

review their current participation in physical activity
-
identify opportunities locally, nationally and internationally for them to advance their participation in physical activity
-
create a development plan and a life plan for their participation in physical activity.
Elsewhere, students will learn about sport, from the grass roots to the elite level, and the development of competitive sport. Healthy lifestyles, fitness and training, and preparation for sports performance are also covered extensively.
The course breakdown is as follows;
AS PE
Theory = 50% Unit 1 - Participation in Sport & Recreation
25% = Part A - Healthy & Active Lifestyles
25% = Part B - Opportunities & Pathways
Unit 1 is assessed with a 1 ½ hour exam at the end of Year 12.
Coursework = 50% Unit 2 - The Critical Sports Performer
4 Coursework tasks;
Task 2.1 - Personal Performance - Participation in two roles from choice of performer, leader, official.
Task 2.2 - Local Study - 1000 word research project.
Task 2.3 - National Study - 1000 word research project.
Task 2.4 - Performance Analysis
A2 PE
Theory = 50% Unit 3 -
Preparation for Optimum Sports Performance
Section A - Short-term Preparation.
Section B - Long-term Preparation.
Section C - Managing Elite Performance.
Unit 3 is assessed with a 2 hour exam at the end of Year 13.
Coursework = 50% Unit 4 - The Developing Sports Performer
Task 4.1 - Development Plan.
Task 4.2 - International Study - 1000 word research project.
Task 4.3 - Progressive Participation - Choose one role from AS PE.
Task 4.4 - Lifeplan
