BTEC Science

The course running for a selected group of year 10s and 11s is the BTEC First Certificate in Applied Science.  It's run by the exam board Edexcel.  Assessment on the course is 100% coursework assessment, which the pupils achieve via a series of Assignment tasks set by the teachers.  The course particularly suits learners who find exams stressful and don't perform to the best of their ability in such situations.

Learners enjoy meeting the challenge of researching and writing about aspects of science through real-life applications such as Forensic science.

Ray diagrams View...
The gallery contains images of ray diagrams investigated by the BTEC students. They show the effect of refraction as the incident angle of a ray increases as it meets a boundary between two transparent materials. The angle of the refracted ray increases, until it is reflected back into the material with the higher refractive index. This effect is the basis of all fibre optic data transmission, e.g. the Internet, cable TV etc.
