The Chemistry of Nickel Carbonyl Watch/Listen...
Never heard of it ?
The metal nickel reacts directly with carbon monoxide, forming nickel carbonyl. On breathing it in, it decomposes releasing CO and coating lung tissue with nickel ....... ouch ! But studying led to breakthroughs in our understanding of transition metals.

The Chemistry of Cholesterol Watch/Listen...
Discovered by nobel prize winning chemist Dorothy Hodgkin in the 1930s, but not all "cholesterols" are the same ! Despite its bad rap, it's used extensively in all humans for making bile and sex hormones.

Yes - simple sand ! Or is it ...........? Used in the manufacture of glass for thousands of years. It's properties are complex and determined by the arrangement of oxygens around the silicon.

NO (Nitric oxide) is weird !
It's produced by the body, but it's a dangerous free-radical. In the not too distant future, we may build mobile phones with NO detectors in them that can give you an indication of how healthy you are ......
