The scheme of work in physics at Key Stage 3 is based on the QCA Scheme of Work.
Year 7: The topics studied in Year 7 are:
- Electric Circuits,
- Forces,
- The Solar System,
- Energy.
In these topics the pupils build upon their learning at Key Stage 2 and develop concepts which will become important to them in later learning.
Year 8: The topics studied in Year 8 are:
- Magnets & Electromagnets,
- Heating & Cooling,
- Light,
- Sound.
Here, further development of Key Stage 2 learning takes place and a revisiting and extension of some of the Year 7 topics. For example, Magnets & Electromagnets uses some of the learning from the Year 7 topic on Electric Circuits; Heating & Cooling uses some of the learning from the Year 7 topic on Energy.
Year 9: The topics studied in Year 9 are:
- Energy & Electricity,
- Gravity & Space,
- Speeding Up
- Pressure & Moments.
The learning which started in Electric Circuits is once again developed in the Energy & Electricity topic in addition to linking it with some of the concepts in the Energy and Heating & Cooling topics. Gravity & Space develops further the learning in The Solar System and Forces.
