German Conference at Farlingaye

Y10 German linguists took part at Farlingaye German Conference, and learnt that speaking a foreign language, and particularly German, opens doors in today’s competitive business world.   There were a variety of speakers from Essex University student Holly who is in her final year studying Languages who gave a passionate account of her year abroad in Berlin, to the hard figures and facts of a business man who is now an advisor for the Goethe Institute. A Cambridge Lecturer talked about student life at Cambridge, and was amused at the facial expressions of the audience, when she started her talk in German – who says that Germans haven’t got a sense of humour!   The correct pronunciation in one of the two workshops was achieved by gargling water, and Annetta and Airin (our ‘Wunderkinder’) won prizes in the German lunch time quiz!
