Transition at Hartismere

Transition at Hartismere

At Hartismere we run a programme of activities aimed at making the transition between primary school and Hartismere as smooth as possible.

We understand that the transition phase of school life is a major one where pupils can move from a very small school environment where they feel confident and secure, to a much larger and newer setting where things can be much less familiar.

Therefore we start transition activities at an early stage and encourage pupils from all our partner primary schools to familiarize themselves with Hartismere both as a school and part of their wider community. Pupils will have an opportunity to take part in a range of activities at Hartismere throughout years 5 and 6 to give them a taster of the subjects and lessons on offer at the school. This is also aimed at building confidence in their understanding of our school routines and site, including the lunch system.

Alongside all of this there are numerous opportunities where staff at Hartismere have the chance to meet with pupils from our partner primary schools. These include events such as the Aylmerton trips which a number of Hartismere staff attend each year, going into each primary school to personally meet with year 6 pupils before they come to Hartismere or through attending various school based activities such as assemblies and sports events.

Therefore we look forwards to meeting the future pupils of Hartismere over the coming months and helping them to settle into life at Hartismere in a successful happy manner.
