63 Year 8 students volunteered to make the ardous journey to Norwich Castle.
They learned much of Castle life and the impending siege by Roger Bigod. The students met with representatives of both sides of the siege. For the defenders of the Castle, Lady de Burgh, the wife of Sir Hubert de Burgh and her Master of Arms and for the attackers, Lady Bigod and Blanche of Castille who were acting as spies within the Castle walls. Some students favoured the defenders of the castle, while others were for the attackers.
The students were praised by both sides of the siege for their skilled diplomacy and politeness, as well as their excellent intellectual support to both causes.
All returned safely to Hartismere even after venturing outside the Castle walls to mix with the Norwich peasantry.
