Each year, Year 8 English students take the English Speaking Board Examination, where they have to prepare and present a prepared talk on a topic of their choice, recite by heart a chosen poem, prepare a reading from a text and engage in an open exchange of ideas. They not only have to do this in front of their peers, but to an external examiner who assesses their performance: a daunting task indeed... However, not only did Charlie attain 100% in the examination itself, but he was nominated by his examiner for the ESB's Young Speaker of the Year.
Last week we were delighted to receive notification that Charlie had been nominated as one of the ESB's 12 Young Speaker of the Year Finalists - a tremendous achievement considering he was selected from almost 30,000 candidates!
He has been invited to the ESB's annual Young Speaker of the Year Showcase in Liverpool in November, where he will not only receive his trophy, but will publicly perform his poem; Wilfred Owen's 'Dulce et Decorum Est'.
From all in the English Department - CONGRATULATIONS CHARLIE!!
