Internships

Get teaching experience with an internship

Header.png

A teaching internship can help you to understand what it’s really like in the classroom. They’re available for university students with an interest in teaching who are either in their second, third or final year of an undergraduate degree, or studying towards a master’s degree.

Internships last 3 weeks, start in June or July, and you’ll be paid £455 per week.

Summer 2026 internships are listed on this page. Placements are limited, so you should apply early to make sure you get an internship.

Once you've finished your internship, you can decide if you want to train to teach in England and get qualified teacher status (QTS).

You'll need to be studying for a related undergraduate or master's degree and interested in teaching one of the following:

  • chemistry
  • computing
  • design and technology
  • languages
  • maths
  • physics

If you’re interested in teaching a different subject, you can still get school experience and find out what it’s like to be in a classroom.

If you're an undergraduate student, you'll need to be in your second, third, or final year of study to apply for an internship.

Places are awarded through application.

You must apply directly to Hartismere using the application form; interviews will be conducted before places are offered. You will need to complete an ENHANCED DBS clearance prior to starting the internship. You will not be able to start without it, and placements are not extended. Our placement will start on Thursday, 25th June 2026, and will continue to Wednesday, 15th July 2026.

To apply, please follow these steps:

Complete the application form. Review further information on our training website.

Non-UK citizens: teaching internships: you must be studying for an undergraduate degree in the UK and have the right to work. A ‘Student’ is someone with immigration permission (a visa) to be in the UK under the Student route, or under the Tier 4 route that it replaced.  We are not able to sponsor interested parties from abroad for the internship.
