Dear parents and carers
JEANS FOR GENES
Hartismere School will again be taking part in this year’s Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 18 September 2026.
1 in 10 families across the UK are affected by a genetic condition and Jeans for Genes is the UK’s awareness and fund-raising event which supports them. 1 in every 25 children have a genetic condition. Some are well known, some are invisible, and others are incredibly rare with life altering consequences. All have their challenges and need specialised help, support and services.
Children and staff are invited to wear non-uniform which can include their jeans or an item of denim clothing on Friday 18 September. We’d like everyone to take part so please send your child into school with a £1 donation. A very big thank you if you have supported us before! This is the 26th year we have worn our jeans and each year more and more pupils have become involved. The day also helps to raise the profile of DNA which relates to many parts of the biology curriculum.
The following rules must be followed if your child is wearing non-school uniform:
· No bare shoulders or midriffs
· If shorts are worn they should be knee length
· T-shirts should not have offensive logos
· No football/rugby team kit e.g. ITFC or NCFC
· No beachwear
· No backless shoes or flip flops
· Rules about piercings remain in force
If you’d like to know more about Jeans for Genes Day, you can visit the Jeans for Genes website at www.jeansforgenes.org.
Yours faithfully
Dr N Sparshott
Head of Biology
