Hartismere School Art Department invites local artists to apply to be our Artist in Residence for 2026.

We have an exciting opportunity for an established artist to join our school for two weeks as an artist-in-residence. The artist would work in our thriving art department, alongside our teachers and pupils for two weeks in the summer or autumn term 2026. 

● You will be based in the art department each day. The school day is from 8.45-3.40pm, but there are likely to be some events and work outside of these hours. We will provide you with a studio space for you to work on your own practice during your residency. 

● Accompanied by teachers, you would deliver a range of workshops to pupils in the school from years 7 to 13, in school and after school hours. We are keen for our artist-in-residence to inspire pupils to produce their own work in response to yours. 

● Part of the project is to create a piece of work of your own that could be permanently displayed in the school grounds. 

● If the residency takes place during the summer term, the school would exhibit your work alongside students’ work during our annual arts festival where you would share your experience of your residency 

● Funding will be provided to cover your time in school, workshops and material costs 

● This post is suitable for recent graduates or more established artists who are interested in working with young people to promote a love of art 

● You will inspire young people to consider careers in art and so the ability to communicate with enthusiasm to young people is an important part of the role 

● An enhanced DBS check and online presence check will be required, and safeguarding training will be provided.
